The Northwest Suburban Conference North Division will have an undisputed top team after Blaine faces Elk River on Dec. 20. The winner will take sole possession of first place in the division standings.
The Bengals, ranked No. 4 in the Class 2A state coaches' poll, may also find a victory eases the sting of the season's first loss. Blaine squandered a one-goal lead in the third period to fall to Anoka 4-3 on Dec. 17.
The Bengals (8-1, 6-1) boast an offense powered by four players with 22 or more points on the season, including the conference's leading goal-scorer and Ohio State commit Gabby Rosenthal (13-16-29).
The Elks fell to No. 2-2A Maple Grove and No. 3-2A Eden Prairie by identical 2-0 scores, and if No. 6-2A Elk River (7-2, 6-1) wants to reverse the losing trend against ranked teams, the team will likely look for a big game from sophomore forward Kelsey King (9 goals, 8 assists).
With a lead in the division standings at stake, this matchup of teams with plenty of talent and impressive records this is our pick for the Top Game of the Week.
