Buffalo ousts Wayzata

SECTION 6: Sophomore forward Katie Vatnsdahl scored her second goal 9 minutes, 28 seconds into the second overtime, giving Buffalo a 2-1 victory over Wayzata in the quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon at Parade Ice Arena. Senior goaltender Haley Morningstar was also a hero for Buffalo, stopping 37 Wayzata shots. ... Eighth-grade forward Corbin Boyd scored 5 minutes, 36 seconds into the third period, giving Hopkins a 3-2 victory over Maple Grove. Boyd also had an assist. The Crimson had tied it at two on Courtney Umland’s unassisted goal a minute earlier. ... No. 6 seed Hopkins and No. 3 seed Maple Grove exchanged goals in the second and third period before Hopkins eighth grader Corbin Boyd recorded the game winner at the 5:36 mark of the third period. Senior defenseman Caitlin Essel assisted on the Boyd goal and scored the first Hopkins goal of the period. ... No. 1 seed Minnetonka began its postseason march in fine form, recording a 5-0 shutout over Armstrong. Sydney Baldwin and Amy Peterson each recorded a goal and assist.

SECTION 5: Coon Rapids star senior forward Rachael Bona had one of her better games of the season, netting four goals and adding two assists as the Cardinals cruised past Champlin Park 7-2 in the quarterfinals. Coon Rapids was dominant throughout, outshooting Champlin Park 40-17.

SECTION 4: No. 4 seed Hill-Murray had little trouble in turning back No. 5 Cretin-Derham Hall 6-2. The Pioneers were led by Marissa Brandt with a pair of goals. The senior forward has now scored a goal in eight straight games. Freshman forward Sarah Bobrowski added a goal and an assist.

SECTION 7: Elk River/Zimmerman defended its No. 1 seeding with a 4-0 shutout win over Proctor/Hermantwon/Marshall. The Elks’ Jonna Curtis scored twice and added an assist. Goalie Tori Herrmann recorded 26 saves.
