Edina gets top seed in 2A, Warroad in 1A

The state tournament opens with the Class 1A quarterfinals on Wednesday at Xcel Energy Center. Class 2A begins play on Thursday.

Edina, which cemented its place as the top girls’ hockey team in Class 2A with a section final victory against No. 2 Blake, earned the top seed for the state tournament.

The defending champion Hornets drew first-time tournament qualifier Brainerd/Little Falls in the quarterfinals Thursday at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

Centennial, making its first trip to state in 10 years, got the No. 2 seed and faces Lakeville South. No. 3 seed Hill-Murray plays Eagan and No. 4 Andover faces No. 5 Eden Prairie.

In Class 1A, Warroad earned the top seed and plays New Ulm in the quarterfinals, which begin Wednesday.

No. 2 seed Breck plays Marshall. No. 3 Red Wing, led by Ms. Hockey favorite Taylor Heise, plays Proctor/Hermantown and No. 4 Alexandria plays No. 5 St. Paul United, runner-up at state the past two seasons.
