A frantic third period saw two comebacks, but only one winner.
Madeline Wethington’s game-winning shot from the point got through at the 15:48 mark of the third to put Blake up 4-3 and give the Bears, ranked No. 2 in the Class 2A state coaches' poll, a win over No. 5-2A Andover in the Schwan’s Cup Gold final Friday at Ridder Arena.
Addie Burton tied the game for Blake (14-1) at the 13:29 mark of the third after Andover’s Gabby Krause had given the Huskies (12-3) a 3-2 lead, capping three straight Andover goals. Earlier in the third, Krause got loose up the middle of the ice and scored on a breakaway to tie it 2-2.
A scoreless first period gave way to a pair of early Blake goals in the second. Lily Delianedis scored a shorthanded goal 16 seconds in, and she assisted on a 2-on-1 goal to Izzy Daniel at the 5:54 mark. Later, Andover's Peyton Hemp scored six seconds into a power play, to get Andover within 2-1.
Ava Christie made 16 saves for Blake, while Cassidy Stumo had 31 saves for Andover.
