Blaine scores three unanswered goals to topple Proctor/Hermantown

The Blaine girls' hockey team got punched in the mouth roughly a minute into its contest with Proctor/Hermantown Friday.

Not literally, of course. But the Bengals surrendered a sloppy own-goal at the 1:24 mark of the first period — and it wasn't the first time this season that they had fallen behind quickly.

First report

Blaine scored two goals just 17 seconds apart in the first period, then added a third-period marker to claim a 3-1 victory over Proctor/Hermantown at Fogerty Arena Friday.

Ramsey Parent and Kaitlyn Ronn scored for Blaine (8-8-1, 4-5-1) midway through the first period, while Maddie Andrle tacked on another in the third period.

Alyssa Watkins scored an unassisted goal just 1:24 in the contest for Proctor-Hermantown, ranked No. 4 in Class 1A in the state coaches' poll.

Ryan Gray finished with 20 saves for the Mirage, while Hailey Hansen stopped 22 shots for Blaine.
